It all started here…

Jim BartonAs a kid growing up I had many dreams; one of them was to get a trade and another was to start my own business. At twelve years old, I had it all planned out, and even boldly proclaimed my dreams to my parents one day while we were all standing in the kitchen.

In 1987 I got my plumbing ticket.

In 1990, with the economy on the brink of a recession, I somehow managed to secure a bank loan and registered L.J. Barton Mechanical Inc.

Then I threw myself into the business full bore. And I never looked back. From day one I’ve believed that if you do a good job at a fair price and look after people, you’ll never go wrong. Having a competent and caring team to work with every day brings more enjoyment to the process, and I’m grateful for everyone who has, and who continues to contribute to the ongoing success of L.J. Barton Mechanical.

I like to think a big part of our success is a result of our values:

  • We treat our customers, suppliers, and each other fairly, and with respect
  • We really like what we do and we’re proud to be part of an industry as challenging and exciting as construction
  • We take our work and our commitments seriously – and like to have a little fun along the way too!

Together, we’ve worked hard over the years to build and maintain a reputation for being Reliable, Resourceful and Responsive. So even as the world around us, and the construction industry in particular, continues to change and evolve with new challenges and new opportunities, one thing remains constant: our understanding that continuing to uphold this reputation is the key to our future success.

We look forward to working with you as the LJB story continues to unfold!

“Take the world back to a handshake”

~Jim Barton

A few years ago, I watched a TED Talk by Simon Sinek, a best-selling author who writes and speaks about leadership. Sinek believes that we need more “handshake leadership” in the world. In other words, he believes we need more face-to-face interactions. Of course, when it comes to negotiating and performing construction work, handshakes simply don’t cut it like they used to. But at L.J. Barton Mechanical, our goal is to combine top-notch professional and progressive multi-trade services with good old-fashioned working relationships built on mutual trust and respect. So, when any one of us shakes your hand, know that achieving that goal is part of our ongoing commitment to you.

Communication with L.J. Barton is especially good, they are always responsive when needed and offered intelligent solutions to any problems that arose. I am very satisfied with the overall performance and quality of workmanship demonstrated by L.J. Barton Mechanical. They perform their work safely and maintain a safe work place for their onsite personnel as well as their sub-trades.
