Project Details

This dynamic project included the renovation and expansion of the existing Athletic Centre at the University of Guelph. L.J. Barton Mechanical’s scope of work included the complete plumbing and HVAC systems and the supply and installation of all mechanical equipment including custom air handling units, expansion tanks, cabinet heaters, unit heaters, radiant panels, humidifiers, steam generators, water softener, variable frequency drives, vibration and noise control, mechanical fixtures and refrigerated drinking fountains. L.J. Barton Mechanical successfully coordinated sheet metal, insulation, BAS controls, testing and balancing and chemicals sub-trades.

A unique feature of this project was the supply and installation of high pressure steam lines, high pressure condensate lines, low pressure condensate lines, natural gas, compressed air and chilled water supply and return lines that ran through the tunnel system, complete with an engineered racking and support system. All work needed to be staged in order to accommodate continual use of the existing Mitchell Centre. The project achieved LEED Silver.
