This project featured an expansion and addition of two NHL size ice rinks to the existing Mold Masters Sportsplex facility located in Georgetown, Ontario. Also included in this facility were six change rooms, referee rooms, multipurpose rooms and a lobby, taking this facility to 140,000 square feet. A new refrigeration plant was created to support the two new ice surfaces. Mechanical systems are energy efficient and feature air to air recovery for change rooms, desiccant dehumidification for the ice rinks, and refrigeration plant waste heat reclaim for domestic hot water preheat. Rooftop unit heating coils and arena infloor radiant heat are also using heat reclaim for energy efficiency. L.J. Barton Mechanical’s scope of work included heat pumps through the building, reverse osmosis system, plumbing for showers, washrooms, concession stands, water filtration system along with boilers for heating and domestic water. LEED Silver Certification was achieved.
